It was a roller coaster for certain, but I anchored firmly to my seat for the extreme ride. The scale of the slopes could not be anticipated, hopeful that an occasional flat spot existed to catch my breath along the way and steadying for the next white-knuckle run.
In younger years I was exhilarated with speed – unpredictable twists and turns in the road seemed challenging, always full of anticipation. Nowadays though, I wished for moderation. The sense was that I might plummet perilously from atop the summit like a bobsledder without brakes – hoping I wouldn’t hit a wall.
